Pilipinas Win na Win launched

Last Saturday, ABS-CBN’s newest noontime show, Pilipinas Win na Win (PWNW), captured the hearts of the Kapamilya viewers.

Fresh from her US trip, Kris Aquino joined co-hosts Robin Padilla, Pokwang, Mariel Rodriguez and Valerie Concepcion in the launch of PWNW that introduced new segments, games and prizes.

The opening of was star-studded. Guests included Martin Nievera, Piolo Pascual, Boy Abunda, Charlene Gonzales-Muhlach, KC Concepcion, Christian Bautista, Jericho Rosales, Cristine Reyes, Karylle, Bianca Manalo, Juris, Duncan Ramos, Xyriel “Momay” Manabat and Zaijan “Santino” Jaranilla.

Business unit head Jay Montelibano shared that the new combination of hosts was an added excitement factor. “We know of course Kris as being the Media Queen, and bihasa na siya sa pag-ho-host ng mga ganyang palaro. Robin has the charisma. It would actually be an interesting combination. Both have one goal – to make people happy. So both have the heart. Both have the passion. It’s very interesting to see the mix.”

But aside from the hosts, Montelibano said that what will define Pilipinas Win na Win is the new set of games and prizes that will elevate the excitement level not only of the studio audience but of everyone watching. “Focused ang Pilipinas Win na Win sa indibidwal, barangay, pamilya at sa lahat ng Pinoy sa buong mundo. eMamimigay pa rin s’yempre ng milyong papremyo. But now, there will be more winners. Before, the games were one-is-to-one. But now, they’re more geared for the family, for more people. It’s interactive with the barangay at may palaro para sa pamilya.”

The fun-filled opening featured the balloon game Lobo Ko ‘To which was followed by a more exciting Ping Pong Pang. Barangay game, Yaman ng Bayan was also played where Jericho won together with ka-barangayers from La Union. Echo reached the jackpot round called Open Susi-Me but failed to open the P1-M door.

Pilipinas Win na Win airs Mondays to Saturdays after Showtime.

Christian Bautista does K-Pop

Christian Bautista broke new ground again as the first Filipino artist to collaborate with a Korean Pop Group. He recorded the hit song Wrong Number with K-Pop group One Way.

“2010 has been a year of many firsts and many surprises and my collaboration with One Way is one of them,” says Christian. “Being part of one of the best upcoming K-pop groups is a great opportunity, a challenge to continue to explore other music genres. I hope fans will appreciate the version we did.”

In preparation for this special duet, Christian mustered enough courage to overcome what people see as his limitation as a performer by undergoing extensive dance classes almost every other day.

“People have a hard time imagining me dance, so I really want to devote as much time as I could to practice,” says Christian, who has Jungee Marcelo as his dance coach. “I am working very hard and I know

I’ll be better in the future. I am determined. And, I am thankful I have Jungee’s support.”

This proved Christian’s dedication to his craft. It is also a part of his new persona — bolder, more exciting . He started off improving his physique, exposing his “to-die-for” abs in a number of billboards for brands he endorsed.

Formed last February, One Way was in the country recently to promote its first album, One Way Street, distributed by Universal Records.

Buboy wants Sunshine to record an album

CESAR MONTANO and Vic Jose, a record industry whiz, are prodding Sunshine Cruz to record an album.

Shine comes from a family of musicians. No night is complete in Buboy and Shine’s resto, Bellisimo, without a song or two from Shine.

During our recent dinner there, we requested Shine to sing OPM classics that would be part of her album, if it materializes. Of course it will include a duet with Buboy.

Shine surprised Buboy on his birthday with an Hermes belt and three pairs of True Religion jeans. “Ubos ang savings ko,” Shine says, laughing. “But I love seeing him happy. His birthday gift to me na dream bag ko, six months to a year pa ang delivery. Advantage daw for him so he can save up for it.” When Buboy and Shine’s hearts are in it, the sky’s the limit!

Iya performs for princess of Brunei

Iya Villania flew to Brunei with her assistant Tricia Portillo and me to sing for the birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah, daughter of Brunei Sultany Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, at the Istana Sports Club.

With mostly family members, the intimate barbecue dinner party was also attended by the Crown Prince HRH Al-Muhtadee Billah (successor to the Sultan) and his wife HRH Princess Sarah. Also present were the husband of Princess Rashidah, HRH Yang Amat Mulia and the sultan’s other younger son, HRH Prince Malik.

“I am so overwhelmed with this experience. This is the first time I’ve come face to face with real prince and princesses. They treated us so well. I had so much fun and they are genuinely nice people. I will never ever forget this weekend I had with the royal family for the rest of my life.” says Iya.

Iya’s rendition of Love Song, Bad Romance, Love Story, Money Honey, Smile and Last Dance was warmly received. The evening’s program also had group numbers by the children of the royal families. Other invited celebrities were two popular film actors from Indonesia — Joshua and Dimas, who sang famous Bahasa songs.

Iya enjoyed a short tour around the city with members and friends

of the royal family at the Empire Hotel, the famous Water Village and some of the malls and mosques.

Charice, Botox, negative effects on emotions

AT the rate that all columnists, beauty experts, entertainment writers, and showbiz personalities here and abroad are commenting on the Charice “botox” issue, it has emerged as the most controversial aspect of her career, almost as stupefying as her rise to fame.

While the dizzying breaks that accompanied Charice’s international career did have a few bumps and reproaches along the way (“she’s not that good; so many Filipino youngsters are better”), no one can dispute that her being at the right place at the right time catapulted her to an enviable position not only for herself, but also for her country.

And there, comes the rub. Charice must think country before she thinks of herself. Everywhere she goes, she carries the country with her. When she sings out of tune, when she dresses unbecomingly, when she speaks out of line, when she undergoes botox. Poor girl, such a heavy load for one so young. But that is the prize of fame.

Without going into details of whether or not she did get botox as the Belos and the Charice defenders are exercising damage control on, I would simply like to share something I picked up from a columnist of another publication. According to this lady, a study on botox in the scientific journal “Psychological Science” showed that not only does botox numb and paralyze the muscles resulting in the erasure of facial lines responsible for the ageing look, it also is responsible for disrupting emotions so that patients cannot express themselves well. And this is according to a team of scientists who conducted experiments on ladies injected with botolinum toxin-A commercially known as botox.

What this means is that an actress or a singer may look marvelous, but when singing or acting out anger or sorrow, our brain that cues facial muscles to move accordingly to bring out these emotions are hindered significantly from doing so in time. And that is the negative effect on those whose careers depend on effective emotions from unparalyzed facial muscles. Take this information with a grain of salt.

Star-studded opening of 'Pilipinas Win na Win'

"We know of course Kris as being the Media Queen, and bihasa na siya sa pagho-host ng mga ganyang palaro. Robin has the charisma. It would actually be an interesting combination. Iisa kasi ’yung adhikain nila, ‘yung mapasaya ‘yung tao. So both have the heart. Both have the passion. It’s very, very interesting to see the mix."

Kasi kung dati, ’yung games ay one is to one, ngayon, mas pampamilya at mas pangmaramihan. It’s interactive with the barangay at may palaro para sa pamilya,” ani Jay.

Kris Aquino alleged affair with senator denied

President Aquino’s elder sister Pinky Abellada on Friday denied rumors that their youngest sister, television talk show host and commercial endorser Kris Aquino-Yap, was having an affair with Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero.

"Not true, not so true," Abellada told the Philippine Daily Inquirer on the sidelines of a tree-planting event in Quezon City in commemoration of the first death anniversary on August 1 of former President Corazon Aquino.

"Mas madalas ko pang makausap si Chiz [I speak more often with Chiz], more than Kris," she said, adding that Kris herself will speak on the matter later.

Jean Garcia 'no bad bones' for Alwyn

VETERAN character actress Jean Garcia does not believe the news circulating right now that Alwyn Uytingco is a bad influence to her daughter Jennica.

During the press conference of "Ilumina" where Jean will play the role of an evil sorcerer, the actress told reporters that what she knows is Jennica is still the same.

"Wala akong nakikita kay Jennica na negative ngayon ha para sabihin ko na bad influence si Alwyn sa kanya. Ang akin lang eh sana hindi totoo yung bali-balita," she said.

She shared that Alwyn has been very respectful to her and to her daughter and she doesn't have any bad bones for the actor.

According to Jean, the young actor is always asking her approval if they have plans of going out or when he will drive home her daughter.

"They go out and nagpapaalam naman sila sa akin kaya okay lang. Nakikita ko din eh kasi pagpumupunta sya sa bahay eh ok naman."

She meantime admitted that she really made it a point to talk to Alwyn so he knows also her point of view about him going out with her daughter.

Jean told Alwyn to never forget to respect their family and especially Jennica because they gave their trust in him.

"Okay naman sya, walang dating na parang 'I don't like you' kasi okay naman eh, wala pa naman akong nakikita."

Jennica is not the only one who's seeing someone right now. This as Jean confirmed that she's also openly dating right now.

Jean said she is dating someone not from the entertainment industry.

Though she's happy with her love and career life, the actress wants to focus more on her job because it is not every day when artists are being offered big roles on TV.

Watch Jean starting August 2 on GMA-7's newest fantaserye "Ilumina" after Endless Love.

Rhian on JC's statements: Forgive and forget

YOUNG Kapuso star Rhian Ramos doesn't want to comment much on the issue involving her and then co-star and love team JC de Vera.

In an interview with Sun.Star, Rhian said she really doesn't know why all of the news are starting to come out only now and not when the actor was still in GMA 7.

To recall, JC compared Rhian to an "eraser" when he was asked to define his past relationships.

JC was quick to point out that she compared his then co-star to "eraser" because he doesn't want to remember anything between them.

He added that he will not say hi when their path crosses because "hindi ako plastic", saying he will think twice before talking again with the Rhian.

For her part, Rhian said she was advised by her father to just forgive and forget and not be overly affected by the issue and just get some lessons from what she's been through.

"My dad told me not to get angry at tama naman yung advice ng dad ko na wag maging bitter kasi at a certain point eh tinulungan nya akong maging masaya yun nga lang hindi nag last," she said.

Rhian's upon learning this issue was shocked because she really didn't expect hurtful words from JC.

"Nung una nagulat ako, sa ngayon tanggap ko naman yung mga nangyayari kasi matagal na din kasi eh. Hindi ko lang inexpect yun from a guy like him."

The actress just want to keep quiet on their history and said that she doesn't want to erase all their memories together because she also felt special and cared when they were still close to eh other.

"Yung JC noon kilala ko sya, friend ko sya, close ko sya... lampas pa nga sa friend eh. Minahal ko naman sya," she reiterated.

Rhian added: "Binigyan ko yun ng importance at time, ng effort. May mga masasakit na nangyari pero pano yung mga una, eh masasaya naman."

When asked if the relationship was an official boyfriend-girlfriend thing, she said it was mutual and exclusive but they never put label on it.

On another issue, Rhian denied that she received an expensive shoes from close friend Mo Twister.

The Kapuso actress however confirmed that she and Mo are very close now.

Rachel does an Olivia Newton-John

Pop singer and theater artist Rachel Alejandro is gearing up for the most demanding performance of her life — roller skating to Olivia Newton-John and Electric Light Orchestra songs in Atlantis Productions’ upcoming Broadway musical comedy

Xanadu which opens at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City on Sept. 3.

Xanadu follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time — the first Roller Disco…hey, it’s 1980! But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.

This hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you, rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, and includes Magic, All Over The World, Suddenly, I’m Alive, Evil Woman, Have You Never Been Mellow and Xanadu to name a few, and is based on the Universal Pictures’ cult classic movie of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.

Rachel captured audience’s hearts in the dual role of Kate Monster/Lucy The Slut in Avenue Q and now takes on the lead role in Xanadu. She has started her skating classes and is supervised by choreographer Cecile Martinez and skating supervisor Anthony Ong, who studied skating in New York with the Broadway production’s skating instructor Lezly Zeiring. Rachel says, “The biggest challenge here is the roller skating by far. I’m not as well-coordinated as some of you might imagine. But I am quite excited as it is such a fun musical people of all ages can enjoy!”

Bobby Garcia, who will direct Xanadu says, “I’m thrilled to be directing Xanadu. It is a musical I was instantly smitten with when I saw it in New York in 2007. I suspect it will be one of the zaniest rehearsal periods I have had and I look forward to the fun with this amazing cast!”

She will also be returning to the recording studio to record tracks from Olivia Newton-John’s catalog which Sony BMG will release as a five-track CD available at the theater.

New show replaces Wowowee July 31

As Funfare Update correctly predicted, Willie Revillame will not return to Wowowee on Saturday, July 31, as widely reported in the tabs. Instead, a new show called Pilipinas For The Win (PFTW) will take Wowowee’s timeslot (after Showtime), to be hosted by Robin Padilla, Mariel Rodriguez, Valerie Concepcion, Pokwang and Kris Aquino.

“It’s a game and variety show that will surely bring joy, energy and hope to Filipinos all over the world,” according to the ABS-CBN official statement.

The same people behind Wowowee are also involved in the new show —Johnny “Mr. M” Manahan as director, Bobot Mortiz as creative director, Jay Montelibano as business unit head and Phoebe Anievas and Rancy Recato as executive producers.

Rating of Wowowee has been slipping since Willie took a three-month vacation (some sources said that he was actually “suspended” without pay) after he demanded that the network fire Jobert Sucaldito whom he accused of hitting him on Jobert’s radio program on dzMM, sister company of ABS-CBN. There are reports that advertisers

have been pulling out of Wowowee, which is being clobbered in the ratings game by its competition Eat, Bulaga! (on rival station GMA), and promised to return only if Willie was back on the show.

According to Funfare Update’s VDPA (Very Deep Penetration Agent), Willie has been spotted having a serious meeting with an executive of a rival station in Forbes Park and, on another occasion, with an executive of another network.

“Willie was being given an offer hard to refuse,” said the VDPA — that is, to the tune of P8-M monthly with a P100-M signing bonus from one station, and P6-M monthly and as co-producer from another station.

Willie was not available for comment. He doesn’t text back or return calls and is presumed to have been changing his celfone number to evade the press.

ABS-CBN official statement said that Willie, through his manager Arlene de Castro, was already informed about the replacement of Wowowee with a new show.

“He was also notified about a new program being planned for him and this will be announced in due time,” added the statement which didn’t mention if Willie was amenable to the idea.

Meanwhile, Kris is expected back home tomorrow from the US where she and sons Joshua and Baby James are on a holiday.

Ex-sweethearts ill at ease at presscon

Can ex-lovers be friends? Well, maybe not right away.

Un-couple Zanjoe Marudo and Mariel Rodriguez, who broke up last month, looked ill at ease as they were put on the spot at the presscon of their movie, Star Cinema’s 5-in-1 horror movie, "Cinco."

Although featured in separate episodes – he in "Puso" and she in "Mukha" – all eyes were on the two during the Q&A. Those present were asked to refrain from asking about their just-concluded love affair, but when Mariel spoke about karma, there was a follow up about pagtataksil.

Tension filled the air. Pokwang, one of Zanjoe’s leading ladies in "Puso" and Mariel’s co-host in the daily TV show, "Wowowee," decided to speak in behalf of her friend. The comedienne, seated in between the ex-sweethearts, butted in to say: "Wala naming nanloko kay Mariel," but then Mariel chided her: "Ikaw si Mariel?" Mariel proceeded to say that she is thankful for all the projects coming her way. A short while after, the organizers signaled the end of the question and answer, asking for the other stars – including Bangs Garcia, Rayver Cruz, Maja Salvador and the Gigger Boys (Robi Domingo, Sam Concepcion and AJ Perez) – to say their final message to the press.

Mariel stars as a mean boss in "Mukha," which features her solo, while Zanjoe has two leading ladies – Pokwang and Bangs – in "Puso."

Will "Cinco" – directed by five directors, newbies Frasco Mortiz, Enrico Santos, Ato Bautista, Nick Olanka and the more senior Cathy Garcia-Molina – deliver the chills and become a blockbuster or at least be as exciting as its presscon? Find out on July 14.

Judy Ann tells Sarah: Love can wait

THEY’RE superstars and have loads of talent, but aside from sharing star power and undeniable acting gifts, Judy Ann Santos and Sarah Geronimo are first and foremost known as obedient daughters and generous sisters.

It is common knowledge that they are their families’ breadwinners but instead of being ashamed of the fact, the two show no bitterness and are vocal about feeling lucky for having the opportunity to help their loved ones.

"May pact kaming apat (Mommy Carol and her two siblings) na share sa lahat," reveals Judy Ann, now a very happy wife and mother, "At para sa akin pinaka achievement ko ang napag-aral at napagtapos ko ang ate ko dahil ‘di makukuha sa kanya ‘yun."

Sarah, in her twenties, shares the sentiment. "Nagtratrabaho po ako para sa pamilya ko at masarap po ang pakiramdam na blessed kaming lahat."

If there was something that the older Judy Ann wants to tell Sarah, it is to learn to loosen up.

"Lagi ko sinasabi sa kanya to try to enjoy life kasi di mo mababalik ang kabataan mo," she says, "‘Yung love life, darating ‘yan. Maraming manloloko sa ‘yo pero may isang lalaking darating na ipaglalaban siya.

Judy Ann tells Sarah her secret against something that drains any artist: burnout.

"I tell her to rest. Magpahinga siya kung hindi mabu-burnout siya," she cautions the Pop Princess.

This sisterly love from Judy Ann translates to the big screen in Viva Films’ "Hating Kapatid," a touching comedy that opens on July 21.

Viva’s Vic del Rosario is mighty proud of "Hating Kapatid." "This is the first time that Juday and Sarah will be seen in one movie. That is a casting coup in itself. But other than the two, we also enlisted veteran actress Gina Pareno and Tonton Gutierrez and young actors Luis Manzano, JC de Vera and top comedian Vice Ganda to join the cast. This is big."

The major movie project, about sisters Rica and Cecilia, features not only one winning tandem but also box-office director Wenn Deramas and scriptwriter Mel del Rosario, who have partnered in several successful projects.

"Hating Kapatid" tells the story of two siblings who sacrifice even their personal happiness to keep intact the bond that they share." It will be holding premiere nights in Austria on July 24 at the Plus City Hollywood Megaplex, Pasching and July 25 at the Hollywood Megaplexx Gasometer, Vienna. It is also scheduled to unreel in Switzerland on July 31 and Aug. 7 at the Kino Uto in Zurich and then on Aug. 8 at the Uptown Cinema in Geneva and in Spain on Aug. 21 and 22 at the Cine Comedia, Barcelona.

Ricketts doing better than expected

Since the appointment of Ronnie Ricketts as Chairman of the Optical Media Board in October, 2009, he has earned commendations from several film and non-film people and that is because he has been very effective and faithful in the discharge of his duties. During the Manila Film Festival Philippines 2009 he received accolades from the Film Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) President Angelo Eloy Padua and several colleagues in the movie industry for having prevented piracy of the MMFF entries.

This year, Chairman Ricketts has lined up several anti-film piracy awareness activities. Among them the now much-awaited by several NCR universities, the All-Star Basketball series in which Ronnie along with his OMB team of movie stars will play friendly matches with teams from De La Salle, Adamson U, Emilio Aguinaldo, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and even teams from places outside the Metro with All-Star games in Ilocos and La Union as well as an All-Star friendship game with the U.S. Embassy Champions at the Arellano University with U.S. Ambassador Thomas at the VIP area.

The OMB under Chairman Ricketts also donated tower burners to Carlos Albert School and Manuel A. Roxas High School and has been visible in the Launch of the Pilipinas Anti-Piracy Team on March 18, in the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Anti-Book Piracy at the Makati Cinema Square on May 26, at the U.S. Memorial Day Ceremony at the American Cemetery, Taguig City on May 30 and the 3rd Kawani ng Gobyerno National Sports Cup on June 1 all for the sake of raising awareness on Anti-Film and all other forms of piracy.

The Optical Media Board conducted multiple raids in different areas around the metro on June 4. They raided Makati Cinema Square, Alphaland Guadalupe, Ruins in Paranaque, and Muntinlupa. The Philippine National Police assisted the agency in the raids. The agency would like to commend Makati Chief of Police Col. Bonifacio, Paranaque Chief of Police Col. Valdez, and Muntinlupa Chief of Police Col. Sapitula for a very successful partnership to stop piracy in our country.

Following several raids in Metro Manila and several provincial operations which include joint OMB/law-enforcement operations in Baguio City, a Veterans center warehouse in Taguig City, a printing machine in Quirino Highway, Baesa Q.C., the Quiapo Palanca warehouse operation in May, and the June operations, a ceremonial destruction of counterfeit and pirated products was done jointly by the PNP, the NBI, the OMB headed by Chairman Ricketts and the Intellectual Property Office during the 12th Anniversary of the IPO at the PNP grounds, Camp Crame, Quezon City on June 23.

With the ever low-key but strong-willed Chairman Ronnie Ricketts at the helm of the OMB, many famous film industry, concerned individuals and groups, as well as political, personalities such as former President Fidel V. Ramos and wife Ming, Senator Bong Revilla, Senator Miguel Zubiri, Senator Manuel ‘Lito’ M. Charice magiging cover ng teen vogue

Ibang ma-guilty si Regine, ‘no!

Martin welcomes son in music industry

CONCERT King Martin Nievera is proud to announce that he is a stage father after his son, Robin, was picked to be a finalist in MYX VJ search of 2010.

Martin, who has been in the music industry almost half of his life, is thankful that his son is taking the path he loves - music and hosting.

While the young Nievera is taking his first big stint in showbiz, Martin said that at first their children do not want to do things he and Pops did.

“They try to do something else, he has a different genre in music which is different from ours and he is very good with his craft," Martin said.

Robin auditioned to be part of the MYX VJ finalist without asking any help from his mom and dad. He just told them that he will be part of the show when everything is final.

Martin continued that he is voting Robin through text every so often and he is willing to be a stage father if his son permits him to do so.

"When he needs me to be a stage father I will gladly do so but if not, I'm also fine with it. But I am a stage father," he added.

When asked for his advice to his son, the "Twist and Shout" host said he tries to tell him not to be brutally honest and not everyone will get his jokes.

But he is confident that win or lose, Robin will emerge a better person with the experience he is taking.

"He joined the competition because of his love for music more than the popularity. He's really after the fun, music, sharing and to use his talent to inspire and entertain other," Martin said.

KC denies visiting Piolo

TELEVISION host KC Concepcion cleared the statement of young star Zaijain Jaranilla that she was spotted in the set of Piolo Pascual's upcoming fantaserye.

The actress reiterated that she never went to the set of "Noah" in Subic to visit the actor who is working with Zaijain in the project.

“Kung pumunta naman po ako dun ay sasabihin ko. Ano naman ba yung sabihin ko na 'yes totoo' pero hindi po kasi ako dumalaw,” she said.

KC added that it’s Piolo who always pays a visit on the set of her show, "Simply KC".

The actress believed that Zaijain heard something about her and Piolo that is why the kid made a joke on an interview.

“Siguro may nagsabi sa kanya na ganun, true enough meron akong nabasa na isang article but hindi siya yung na highlight,” she said.

KC and Piolo's relationship is the talk-of-the-town now but both insisted that they are just "friends".

She cleared that they are still not in the in-love level and she is giving the floor to Piolo to talk more about the real score between them.

MARVIN WISHES JOLINA WELL

A NEW character is introduced in "Pilyang Kerubin," Angel Adante, played by Marvin Agustin. We visited the taping at San Francisco del Monte and Marvin is shown arrested by cops for participating in a bank holdup. It'll be revealed that he's a former guardian angel who falls in love with the blind woman he's protecting, Rosa (Camille Prats). He lost his angelic powers and became a mortal to marry her. When Rosa gets sick, he held up a bank for her medical needs. In prison, he's offered by Aroo (John Lapus), the devil's assistant, to side with the forces of darkness so Rosa will be healed. Will he forsake his heavenly background and join forces with the devil for good? This is what you have to find out in this new twist in the story of "Pilyang Kerubin." Executive producer Angie Castrence tells us they'll soon have Maricel Soriano as special guest. "We also plan to invite Sen. Bong Revilla and Joey de Leon to guest in the show," she says. "Also Iza Calzado, Kris Bernal, and Aljur Abrenica while they're waiting for their new soap to start."

"Pilyang Kerubin" also has a new director, Maryo J. de los Reyes, after Andoy Ranay resigned for some undisclosed reason. Marvin said he accepted "Pilyang Kerubin" as he has long wanted to work with Direk Maryo. "First time namin ito and I'm glad I finally got the chance to be directed by him," he says. "Sana, next time, we'll do a movie na."

This is the second time he plays an angel. "In 'Mata ni Anghelita,' I was the angel Gabriel. Tapos, I also did the movie 'Angels' with Dingdong Dantes as director. I must have been an angel in my past life. In the new film I'm doing, 'Ina ng Peñafrancia, Ikaw ang Pag-ibig', directed by Marilou Abaya, I play naman the priest brother of Ina Feleo who gets leukemia and is healed by the Blessed Virgin. Feeling ko, banal na ako kasi roles ng anghel at pari ang ginagampanan ko."

How does he feel now that Jolina Magdangal has lost all her shows on GMA? "Right now, she's just in the States. I'm sure hindi siya pababayaan ng management. Sayang naman ang talent niya."

Dingdong: Gusto kong magkaanak kay Marian

DINGDONG Dantes is elated over the positive feedback and high ratings that the pilot week of "Endless Love" got. "The story gets even more absorbing this week kaya they shouldn't miss a single episode," he says.

And what can he say about the negative feedback that his statement saying "gusto kong magkaanak kay Marian" elicited? His detractors say this isn't good for a role model to the youth like him as it disregards the fact that they should be married first before having kids. "That statement was just taken out of context," he says. "Those who know me alam na hindi ako ganung klase ng tao kung sumagot. May prior question before that and I won't take back what I said as I know where I stand. Kung anong opinion nila, wala akong pakialam sa kanila."

Marian restrained Dingdong from saying anything else. "Huwag mo nang sagutin at baka mas palakihin. Basta the two of us, nagkakaintindihan at alam ko that's not what you mean. Let's just focus on 'Endless Love' as we're both proud of it dahil itong pinakamagandang project na nagawa natin so far."

Judy Ann Santos to take long break from showbiz

Judy Ann Santos, an expectant mom, is taking one-and-a-half-year break from show business to focus on her family.

In a taped interview on “The Buzz” aired Sunday, the young superstar said she decided to take a long break from show business to spend more time with her children.

“Magpapahinga lang siguro ako isa, isa't kalahating taon para mabantayan ko din ang paglaki ng mga bata. Ako naman naniniwalang sapat namang panahon ang naibigay ko sa mga tao for the past 2 decades na naging artista ako,” she said.

Santos and husband Ryan Agoncillo have an adopted daughter named Johanna Lois. The high-profile couple, who got married on April 28, 2009, is expecting a baby boy.

“Ako mismo sa sarili ko, siguro hanggang mag-iisang taon siguro ang bagets, maibigay ko sa kanya ang lahat ng attention ko, lahat ng pagmamahal. Top priority ang mga bagets,” she added.

Santos, one of the lead stars of upcoming film “Hating Kapatid,” is also optimistic that ABS-CBN will still welcome her once she comes back to the Kapamilya network after her long hiatus.

“Naniniwala ako sa ABS-CBN na sa pagbabalik ko may magandang proyekto silang nakaabang para sa akin. Basta ang promise ko lang sa kanila, kapag ready na ako, magpapakita ako sa kanila,” she said.

‘Buchochoy’

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old mom revealed that her father-in-law has already picked a nickname for her baby boy.

“Si Yohan (Johanna Lois), Buding ang tawag sa kanya. Para fair, siya (baby boy) si Buchochoy habang wala pa kaming naiisip na pangalan,” she shared.

Santos also revealed that as early as now some companies have already expressed their interest in getting her and her baby to endorse their products.

“May ilang ilang nag-aantay, nag-aabang. And we’re very thankful for them na nagpaparamdam sila. Nakakatuwang isipin na inaabangan nila ang paglabas ng baby at maraming maraming salamat po,” she said.

As for her weight gain, Santos said: “Napaka-hipokrita ko naman kung sabihin kong wala akong ka-fear, fear at all. Pero di ba napakatinding blessing na itong nabuntis ako? Para namang napaka-selfish ko naman kung sabihin kong, 'Paano kung hindi na ako bumalik sa dating kong katawan?'”

On work-related issues, meantime, Santos denied that she ever planned to back out of “Hating Kapatid.”

Lea Salonga not joining 'Glee'

International singer Lea Salonga is not joining hit American comedy series "Glee."

In her live interview on “The Buzz” Sunday, Salonga said there was no offer to join the show, and she has no idea where the speculations came from.

"No, no. I've not been asked and I have no idea how that (speculations) happened," Salonga said.

Rumor has it that Salonga will portray international singing sensation Charice's mother.

If given a chance though, the Tony Award-winning theater actress said she would be glad to do it.

"Of course I would, absolutely. It's one of my favorite TV shows,” she said.

In “Glee,” Charice will play the role of a foreign exchange student whose killer vocals get lead star Rachel contemplating murder. The pint-sized singer will start taping for the series on July 28.

"Glee" is an hour-long comedy series that follows an optimistic high school teacher as he tries to reignite his passion while working with a group of outcasts to revive the fortunes of the school's glee club.

Meanwhile, Salonga is all set for the staging of "Cats,” one of the well-loved and longest running musicals on Broadway.

Salonga top-bills the production as "Grizabella" wherein she is singing alto.

The musical will be held at the CCP Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo from July 24 to August 15.

A lock of love

Sarah Geronimo has donated a lock of hair to charity.

Sarah said she herself cut her long tresses and gave her “gift” for cancer patients to hair stylist Jing Monis, who sent it to the US-based organization, Locks of Love.

According to the website www.locksoflove.org, the organization gives hairpieces to needy children suffering from hair loss due to long-term medication, “to help restore their confidence.”

During a political gathering, Sarah denied rumors that the gesture was the result of frustration over her “zero” love life. She jested, “Well, I wanted a hair makeover.”

She gamely answered questions about long-time suitor Rayver Cruz and John Lloyd Cruz, her leading man in two hit movies, and pregnant Judy Ann Santos, her costar in Wenn Deramas’ “Hating Kapatid.”.

Sarah said Juday never complains, but has limited work to two days a week and set a cut-off time. “We all get to go home early,” Sarah noted, smiling.

She said she was “shocked” when she learned about the romance between John Lloyd and Shaina Magdayao. “It can no longer be denied. People see, and they talk. I just hope the public will respect [their privacy].”

Sarah would not confirm that newcomer Matteo Guidicelli is courting her, only that they’re friends. “Billy (Crawford) introduced him to me in Cebu. It’s not true that Matteo has been sending me flowers. But he’s good looking.”

About Rayver, she would only say, “If we’re meant for each other, it will happen.”

Away nina Kris at James pinagpupustahan

Matteo not courting Sarah

Agua Bendita star Matteo Guidecelli sheds light on the issue that he’s presently courting Sarah Geronimo.

“No, it’s not true,” he explains. “I have high regard for her as a popular icon in contemporary ‘biz. I salute her enormous talents. But that doesn’t mean I’m courting her already!”

The good-looking lad doesn’t deny that he and the Pop Princess keep in touch with each other most of the time.

“That’s right! Our communication lines are always open. In fact, before she left for the States to do a series of shows, we were able to talk. We discussed about the importance of education. But that’s just it.”

Based on general observation, Sarah’s family likes him a lot, specially her folks.

“Well, they are nice people, very down-to-earth. Just like Sarah, they’re cool,” Matteo adds.

According to the rumor mill, he really went out of his way to get to know Sarah.

“Actually, it all started when I went to Batangas with the Popsters to watch Sarah. When she held a concert in Cebu one time, I found it a perfect opportunity to visit my hometown, too. So I went. There, we were formally introduced.”

That gesture reportedly made Sarah feel flattered.

“It’s also an honor to finally meet her in person considering all her accomplishments in the field of entertainment. It feels good that I made her happy during that time.”

Because of his close association with Sarah at the moment, many are curious if he doesn’t feel awkward towards fellow Kapamilya talent Rayver Cruz who was once linked to the junior superstar.

“Rayver and I are okay. We’re friends. In fact, we go to the same gym and train together. That’s why I was shocked with the report that we snubbed each other one time allegedly, because of Sarah. There’s nothing like that,” ends Matteo.

Gretchen answers toughest questions

WITHOUT any hesitation, primetime star Gretchen Barretto faced Kris Aquino in "The Buzz" Tougher 10.

She picked beauty over money when asked by Kris, saying, "Pag maganda ka, magkakaroon ka ng yaman kasi ang yaman hindi niya kayang bilhin ang kagandahan."

She also believed that she is a better hands-on mother than as a wife.

"I'll give up anything for my daughter even without thinking, no hesitations at all."

Dominique, he daughter with business magnate Tony Boy Cojuanco, will always be number one in her life, she said, picking her live-in partner as the second priority.

But when Kris asked if her daughter thinks the same, Gretchen admitted otherwise. She revealed that Dominique picks her dad over her.

"She always says it talaga without hiya. Sasabihin nya, 'Dad, you are my favorite. You are the best all the time' and naiintindihan ko yun," she said, reiterating that her partner spoils their daughter more than her.

When asked about her imperfections, she refused to give any from her physical beauty but enumerated a few things from other aspect.

She believes her being too "madaldal and playful" can sometimes offend other people that would eventually led to misunderstanding.

When asked "Mayroon ka bang pinagsisisihan bilang kapatid", the beauty icon said she did not have any regrets when it comes to her family because she had given them anything she can.

Gretchen and her sister Claudine Barretto is currently in no-speaking term after the two had a misunderstanding before the latter moved to GMA 7.

The "Magkaribal" star always refuses to give statement in this matter and believes that everything will be cleared in its proper time.

John Lloyd admits relationship with Shaina

BOX Office King John Lloyd Cruz confirmed that he is in a romantic relationship with actress Shaina Magdayao.

"Yes, it's us," the actor said in a television interview, referring to his connection with the actress.

Once and for all, he said he wanted to set the record straight, citing, "Ang dami nang nag-take advantage sa pananahimik ko. Marami nang nasasaktan at hindi na nakakatuwa."

He admitted having talked to Shaina's ex-boyfriend John Prats about the matter. "Lalake sa lalake, sabi ko sa kanya (John Prats). Let's put our egos behind kasi isang babae ang naapektuhan dito."

John Lloyd also made a stunning disclosure when he confirmed his relationship with host Ruffa Gutierrez.

Ruffa and Shaina had a nice talk before anything was circulated in the media, according to John Lloyd.

Hours after the interview, Ruffa posted in her Twitter account: "THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE! Thank you. Indeed it was very special. No regrets. Now let's stop, respect and move forward with a smile.

Bea denies conflict with Sarah

YOUNG actress Bea Alonzo dismissed any rift with Sarah Geronimo, citing she sees no problem with the singer-actress doing projects with her on-screen sweetheart John Lloyd Cruz.

“Hindi ko tinitingnan na ganun yung sa kanila, para sa akin mas nakakatulong sa akin at sa kanila yung love team,” she said in an interview.

Bea also said there will come a time in their showbiz career that they need to step-up and offer something different.

She believed that it’s a good sign of their flexibility, stressing they were able to do different roles with different actors.

Bea started her acting career in ABS-CBN's primetime series "Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay" wherein she starred opposite John Lloyd.

In 2008, their team-up was slightly shattered by the movie "A Very Special Love" starring John Lloyd and Sarah which was followed by "You Changed My Life".

Just recently, Bea and John Lloyd topbilled "Miss You Like Crazy”, the post Valentine offering of Star Cinema and their reunion movie after three years.

Bea is coming back to primetime television in "Magkaribal" opposite with Gretchen Barretto and Derek Ramsay which is schedules to air on June 28.

John Lloyd, on the other hand, is shooting his upcoming primetime series with Angel Locsin.

FORMER beauty queen Charlene Gonzales is happy with the projects given to Aga Muhlach, saying she was flattered with the country's leading actresses orchestrating interest to do a project with her husband.

“It's so flattering to hear that they would like to do a movie with him. Syempre once I hear that natutuwa ako as his wife,” she said.

Aga is currently filming a movie with Angel Locsin while also shooting a sitcom with Ai-ai Delas Alas. He is set to do a movie with Regine Velasquez and Leah Salonga by the end of the year.

The former beauty queen meantime dismissed rumors that she is jealous with Aga's leading ladies, saying she is even more excited for her hubby to do a project because she is a big fan of him.

"Instead wasting my time in these negative things, we might as well make the situation better," she said.

‘Bossing’ around with rock stars

ROCK ’N’ ROLL PUT SPICE TO AN event that was cooked up to encourage business entrepreneurship.

If good business starts with an exciting idea, the guys who thought of tapping rock stars Rico Blanco and Arnel Pineda to usher in the launch of PLDT SME Nation’s “Bossing Ako” campaign Thursday night at the NBC Tent in Taguig hit the right note.

Blanco is actually an integral part of the blitz — having been commissioned to write and perform the “Bossing Ako” theme music for a video, with Pineda as co-singer, which likewise premiered that night.

The song itself sounded good, with driving rhythms and motivational lyrics that could move the innocent viewer to pick up the phone and do business with the telco giant.

The company is selling the idea that SMEs (small-to-medium scale entrepreneurs) will be more efficient and thus more profitable if they avail of PLDT’s Internet service and centralized phone lines.

If the message was about instantaneous “connectivity,” the musical performances at the event boosted it.

Playing with an excellent backup band (sparked by lead guitarist Mike Bon and 18-year-old drummer Ralph Ruiz), Blanco had the crowd in rapt attention. The music, consisting of Rivermaya and Blanco’s own material, pricked the senses. But even more powerful were the lyrics, some of which captured the essential element of successful endeavors: “Kung gusto, parating merong paraan.”

Pineda, on the other hand, relied on his old Zoo band mates and offered classic rock covers that turned the corporate event into a party. There was lively dancing on the front rows, the revelers composed of employees from Reyes Haircutters.

Earlier, the salon chain’s boss, Les Reyes, and 11 other top guns (including Regal Films’ Mother Lily and daughter Roselle Monteverde-Teo, North Park’s Raphael and Jenni Soon, Joey Pepperoni’s Joey Concepcion) joined PLDT’s Manny Pangilinan on stage and were introduced as the faces of the “Bossing Ako” campaign.

In a sense, the success attained by these models of good business has also transformed them into virtual rock stars.

Offstage, lots of food and drinks kept everybody happy.

Tricia is also hopeful that she will get to work with "Magkaribal" star Enchong Dee in the future.

Rumor has it that Ejay had been buying food for his leading lady in "Momay" though the actor remained mum about it.

"Sobrang idol namin sya lahat sa Mindoro, na tuwing may bagong pelikula, pinapanood talaga naming lahat. Kaya hindi ako makapaniwala na may ganito akong opportunity na makasama yung anak nya sa isang proyekto," Ejay said of Robin.

Rhian denies Paris date with DJ Mo

The issue started when television host Ruffa Gutierrez announced in her talkshow "Paparazzi" that the duo were seen in Paris.

She admitted that Mo is one of her closest friend in showbiz, but added that she is not yet ready to enter a relationship right now because she's more focus in her career.

Though Rhian denied the issue, Mo is still very vocal with his feelings toward the actress.

Mo earlier said he like Rhian because, aside from her physical beauty, he believes that she is one of the smartest celebrities in showbiz.

The rumors linking the two first went out when they were promoting the suspense-horror movie "Ouija" in 2007.

What Luis wants

Happy, yes; fulfilled, no. This describes how Luis Alandy feels about his career these days.

Lest you think Luis is contradicting himself, the GMA-7 talent insists the two adjectives are poles apart.

“I’m happy with my career,” he says. “I’d be a hypocrite if I say I didn’t feel impatient once since I’ve been in this business for 12 years now. But I realize I have no reason to feel that way. (GMA) management, directors and producers give me credit for my work.”

Fulfillment is another thing, though. Luis is so hooked on acting he thirsts for more and more meaty roles. Not for him so-so roles where he is another pretty face, a hunk or mere decoration. Or roles that repeat what he has already done.

“I avoid doing another gay role since I’ve done that in Regal’s Manay Po and Desperadas,” Luis points out.

He’s also thinking not just about the here and now, but of the future as well.

“I want to make movies that will make my future children feel proud. I consult not just my manager, but my family when offers come to me,” he says.

That’s why Luis appreciates the fact that GMA Network, under which he has a four-year contract, is giving him roles he can sink his teeth into.

“I appreciate the respect the network is giving me where roles are concerned,” he explains. The Kapuso network cast Luis as villain in the afternoon soap Ina, Kasusuklaman Ba Kita?, where Luis sparked conflict between the characters of reel-and-real-life mom and daughter Jean and Jennica Garcia. He also played a meanie in the defunct GMA soap Ngayon at Kailanman.

These may be character roles, but Luis is not complaining.

“I don’t have to be the lead character,” he relates. How he plays the role is much more important.

“Each role,” he declares, “needs a fresh attack, a different look. That’s why I’m discriminating in choosing roles.”

Besides, Luis adds, he doesn’t want people to feel they’ve been shortchanged when they watch him on screen.

He’s confident people will get their money’s worth when they see him in the indie film Buenavista (Ang Kasaysayan ng Lucena), which will have its regular theater run starting Wednesday, June 9 at SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, SM Centerpoint (Sta. Mesa), SM Manila, SM Southmall, SM Bacoor, SM Fairview and SM Lucena as part of the Philippine Independence Week celebration.

The period film set in the late 1890s, is rich in historical values and lessons about love of country. Luis, as Dr. Horacio Zaldena, who returns to the country after studying in Madrid, thinks the film will help him reach out to students who can learn a lot from it. It will broaden his exposure to include more young people — the bulk of the populace.

Luis is no stranger to films that go down memory lane. He played the son of a martial law official in the digital film Anino ng Setyembre, set after the martial law era.

These serious roles whet Luis’ appetite for others that squeeze his creative juices all the more. Luckily, GMA understands.

“My manager (Arnold Vegafria) said I am being groomed in the mold of Jericho Rosales,” crows Luis.

Considering how Jericho now commands respect after he won another Best Actor award in Baler, that’s not too bad.

Luis is getting lessons straight from the horse’s mouth. He observes how “Tito Eddie (Garcia, his Buenavista co-star) writes notes on his script and knows what scene comes before and after his own.”

Luis also takes down notes and writes them on the script, but observing someone like Eddie Garcia doing it right before his eyes, is much more inspiring.

“His mere presence is intimidating,” notes Luis, who plays Eddie’s eldest grandson in the movie.

But Luis is hardly intimidated by the presence of new and younger talents these days. He even welcomes them as reminders that he should work harder and prove his worth some more.

“Competition is part of the business — any business,” he muses. “It brings out the best in me. You see, I don’t want to be too complacent as an actor. Otherwise, I’ll lose my edge.”

So let the new talents come, front, left and center. Luis is ready for the thrill — and the challenge — of meeting them, head on.

Gabby meets Sharon on Sunday

STUNNING news shocked and surprised the showbiz industry when it was announced that former couple Gabby Concepcion and Sharon Cuneta will appear in "Sharon", with their daughter KC, this Sunday.

"Paki ready na po ang ambulansya, oxygen kasi hindi ko po ito kakayanin," KC said in an interview.

The news also came as a surprise to Gabby and said that the idea, of the three of them in one show, is very much welcomed.

"This is all a surprise. It would be nice, really," he said, citing also his invitation to Sharon on the premier night of his movie, I'll Be There, next week.

On Thursday and Friday, Gabby graces "Simply KC" where the father-and-daughter shared the most intimate details of their family life.

Gabby said they do not want KC to be in front of the camera but it was an inevitable thing because she was drawn to theater plays and advocacies.

KC, for her part, said it was a big opportunity to do a movie project with her father, which she really dreamed of.

Robin Padilla 'dating', says daughter

THE daughter of Robin Padilla, Quennie, said his dad had not been home frequently the past few days and that "he might be out dating with someone".

"Hindi na sya masyadong umuuwi ng madalas. Hindi ko alam kung saan sya pumupunta. Siguro may ka-date," she jokingly said in an interview with Sun.Star.

The neophyte actress shared that she also observed that her father had been much happier lately after he was linked to Kapamilya talent Mariel Rodriguez.

When asked if she personally knows Mariel, Quennie said she still have to meet her.

But Robin's daughter noted that she heard a lot of good things about the "Wowowee" host.

She however said her father has not been vocal on talking about Mariel.

"Maybe because he is a bit shy when opening the topic to us," she added, saying this is the first time that his dad showed interest to a lady after his separation with their mother, Liezel Sicangco.

Robin and Liezel were separated three years ago and the latter is now living in Australia with her new husband.

When asked for her message to the girls being linked to his dad, the young actress said she hopes for them take good care of him, and always be truthful too.

John Lloyd breaks silence

AFTER months of intrigues, acclaimed actor John Lloyd Cruz breaks his silence on the issue linking him to co-Kapamilya star Shaina Magdayao.

"As much as I like to give a complete answer, I don't think it’s the right time yet," he said.

"Pero darating kami sa punto kung kailan namin gustong sabihin, kapag naramdaman namin kung ano ba talaga ang dapat sabihin at dapat sagutin sa bawat tanong ng karamihan," he added.

The issue cropped up when pictures of Shaina and John Lloyd was posted in an entertainment website (www.pep.ph) after the actress split with her dancer-boyfriend John Prats.

Many speculated that Shaina and John Lloyd are playing beautiful music together and such was the reason on the lady's breakup.

Wowowee

Meanwhile, the actor said he is very happy to be in Wowowee being one of the four Kanto Boys -- Billy Crawford, Luis Manzano, Vhong Navarro and Lloydie himself.

Vhong was not able to join the group because his show "Showtime" airs before Wowowee."

Lloydie cleared that they are not pressured to get the same reception Robin Padilla had in the show.

"Hindi naman yun ang importante. Ang dahilan ng pagpunta namin dun ay makapagpasaya sa show at makatulong sa mga kababayan natin," he said.

The actor added that just given the opportunity to replace Willie Revillame for two weeks is already a big thing for the three of them.

Tyron Perez joins Kapamilya network

FIRST discovered in the limelight in GMA-7's "Startruck", Tyron Perez joins ABS-CBN and is now undergoing acting workshops for his appearances in the late afternoon teleserye, “Momay”.

In an interview with Sun.Star, Tyron said he is happy with his decision to transfer to the Kapamilya network and noted that everyone has been very accommodating to him.

“At home na at home talaga ako at napakabait ng mga artista at crew dito, wala akong masabi,” he said.

Tyroon will be working with child star Xyriel Manabat, Maliksi Morales, Betina Carlos, Ejay Falcon, and Queenie Padilla in "Momay."

He shared that he is very happy with his role in the project because it harness his capabilities and skills as an actor.

Before moving to ABS-CBN, Tyroon has been part of independent films "Pipo" (2009) and "Twilight Dancers" in 2006.

“I will focus more for now kasi this is what I really love to do. I want to step up and do things that I've never done before,” he said.

The actor is hopeful that he will get to work with long time crush Anne Curtis and critically acclaimed actor John Lloyd Cruz.

Boy Abunda says no to tourism post

KING of Talk Boy Abunda set the record straight that President-apparent Senator Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino did not offer him a Cabinet post, particularly as chief of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

In his evening program "Showbiz News Ngayon" (SNN), Boy said there was no formal talks about the issue and all were merely casual talks among friends and families.

“Wala pong pormal na offer na ibinigay sa akin. Walang inilatag sa akin ang isang kumite ang ating future President,” he said.

If in case he will be invited in the post, the host pointed out that he will decline the offer because he is not yet ready to live life outside the showbiz industry.

“I understand that when one is offered to occupy a government post, dapat intellectually, emotionally, and financially ready. Intellectually, we can debate about it; emotionally, it's a judgment call; but financially, hindi ako ready,” he stressed.

“I need a few years para mag-ipon kung saka-sakaling mapag-desisyunan ko na to join government,” he added.

Apart from handling various stars in the entertainment industry, Boy has an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN until 2011.

“There are contracts and commitments to be fulfilled. There are talents to be discovered. There are talk shows to be produced at marami pa po akong trabahong gagawin,” he emphasized.

He chided his detractors who are wondering why his name is being considered to handle DOT, citing he can handle the job if he wanted but he just cannot do it this time.

“I take offense. I am an entertainer but I am not just an entertainer. Hindi po madali ang aming ginagawa. To do what we do is not an easy job. I am a serious entertainer at ikinararangal ko po yan,” he reasoned.

“To get where I am today was not easy. It was a difficult journey and pinaghirapan ko po ito,” he reiterated.

“Am I closing my doors? No. But is it gonna happen now? No.” he firmly said.

John Lapus defends beleaguered director-friend

Comedian and TV host John Lapus proved to be a true friend by coming to the defense of his beleaguered colleague, direk Andoy Ranay.

Ranay is currently in the eye of controversy for alleged verbal abuse of young actor Jake Vargas during the taping of “First Time.” According to reports, the director shouted obscene words at Jake when the actor failed to follow his instructions.

Jake's father heard Ranay's alleged vulgarity and complained to his son’s manager German Moreno, who confronted Ranay on the set the next day.

The issue is now being handled by the legal department of GMA-7.

“Kilala ko ‘yang si Andoy, expressive ‘yan. Most likely, it’s (just) an expression. Siguro naging malala lang dahil may nakarinig na tao or something. ‘Di ba parang ganoon ‘yon eh. But I’m pretty sure direk Andoy would not say like that directly to any other person, to a teenager or to a kid for that matter,” Lapus said of Ranay during the press conference for “Pilyang Kerubin.” The TV series is directed by Ranay but he was a no-show at the media huddle that day.

Best friends since college, Lapus feels Ranay is not affected by the brouhaha he got embroiled in.

“Kung affected man siya, he can manage it. Kaya niya ‘yan, matapang ‘yan.

"At saka pareho kami niyan, eh. We’ll just get ourselves busy kung meron kaming mga issue, gano’n. Basta ang importante, we are here to support each other.

"To be honest, siguradong-sigurado ako na it’s just an expression and he doesn’t mean any harm. Maganda nga na nag-apologize na siya. Sana matapos na ‘yung issue, matapos na ang gulo.”

Lapus said he prays for the issue to subside. He has even lit a candle for Ranay to have peace of mind.

What advice has he given Andoy?

But we don’t talk about it.”

John Lloyd Cruz not yet ready to admit relationship with Shaina Magdayao

Even with photos of them together surfacing recently, actor John Lloyd Cruz seems unprepared to admit his relationship with young actress Shaina Magdayao.

When cornered recently, John Lloyd evaded giving direct answers that will confirm specualtions about him and Vina Morales’ younger sister.

“We’re giving it time. So, again, parang kami,” John Lloyd quipped in a taped interview aired May 31 on “Showbiz News Ngayon.”

The actor is cautious about giving details on the matter because "itong mga bagay na ito pinag-uusapan naming dalawa dahil kaming dalawa ang involved dito.

"So, given the right time, makakapagbigay kami ng sagot about it.”

However, the Box Office King admitted their relationship has deepened.

“Talagang kung sa pagkakakilala namin sa isa’t isa, definitely mas lumalim talaga. Nasa ganoong level na siya. That’s all I can say,” he said.

The rumored couple were photographed on two different occasions. One photo is of John Lloyd and Shaina together inside a bicycle store. Another shows them together at a birthday party of an ABS-CBN executive with John Lloyd’s hands on Shaina’s shoulders.

Still, the actor won't say categorically that they are sweethearts.

“There are pictures and pictures don’t lie, ‘di ba? Wala kaming dinedenay, wala kaming tinatago. Pero darating tayo sa puntong kung kailan namin gustong sabihin or pagka naramdaman na namin kung ano ba talaga ang dapat sabihin or dapat sagutin sa mga tanong ng karamihan,” the actor said.

Boy Abunda and Robin Padilla not keen on government appointments

When it seems like everyone in show business is eager to join in on the political fray —as evidenced in the last elections where in a good number of celebrities were actually successful in their political bids, both re-electionists and first-timers— there are those who are taking a moment to assess their own true intentions.

While vote canvassing is still ongoing, the media wastes no time in asking the Presidential front-runner Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III about his choices for his government. However, the ideal cabinet members that he envisions—or that other people envision for him—might not be readily achieved.

Boy Abunda hearts showbiz

One of those reported this early as Aquino’s choice to head the Department of Tourism (DoT) is showbiz talk show host and celebrity manager, Boy Abunda.

Abunda may be a close friend to the Aquino family, and certainly to Aquino’s youngest sibling, Kris, with whom he shares hosting duties, but Aquino actually has a more logical reason for preferring to have the “King of Talk” as part of his cabinet.

“He’s an icon in the country. And even more so for his ability to communicate, to understand the audience and to be able to propound and advance a particular set of ideas,” Aquino tells "TV Patrol" on May 31.

A former Manny Villar supporter, Abunda switched loyalties as soon as Aquino announced his presidential bid. In the same "TV Patrol" report, Abunda said that while he is thankful for the trust of the Aquino family, he felt that he wasn’t ready to leave show business—at least not yet.

Abunda feels he will be more effective in helping Aquino’s leadership by giving him advice that is devoid of any personal or political bias and agenda, since he does have a personal relationship with the soon-to-be President. And this he feels he can still do from his cushy position within the pantheons of Philippine show business, which he clearly loves.

For his part, Aquino tells GMA News he knows there’s a slight problem with appointing Abunda—the latter may have to divest his earnings as a showbiz personality to what government officials make in a year. Clearly, there is a disparity there that may not be easy to resolve.

Rockin’ Robin

The Bad Boy of Philippine Movies, Robin Padilla, isn’t new to "peace talks." While he clearly laments not being able to help forge peace between “Wowowee” host Willie Revillame and DZMM radio personality, Jobert Sucaldito, Padilla hasn’t just used his affable personality to fix showbiz squabbles.

Truth is, if there’s anything that Islam has taught him, he tells ANC, it’s being a peacemaker. Padilla has been incarcerated for three years for illegal possession of firearms in the '90s and this was when he converted to Islam. His most high-profile peacemaking mission was when, in 2000, he was asked to negotiate with the Abu Sayyaf, which then had 54 prisoners in captivity.

“Ang Islam ay kapayapaan,” he clarifies, disputing something he said he read on Twitter about the religion promoting violence. But despite his ideas on peace, Padilla tells “TV Patrol” on May 31 that he is not keen on becoming a member of the Peace Panel for Mindanao, should the incoming government ask.

“Matagal na po ako naging part ng negosasyon diyan sa Mindanao, wala naman hong pinupuntahan eh. ‘Wag na ho natin paglolokohin pa ang ating sarili. Talaga pong ang problema diyan sa Mindanao, ang makaka resolba lang po niyan ay mga taga Mindanao din,” the "Idol ng Bayan" stated without mincing words.

Padilla’s ideas for the country will certainly rock the status quo, including autonomy for Mindanao, and Feredalism. “Kailangan ng Pilipinas maging Federal… Ibig sabihin, [ang] Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao ay [dapat] magkaroon ng kanya kanyang gobiyerno. Hayan nating na taga-Mindanao ang mag resolba ng Muslim Mindanao issue.”

What do Ai Ai and Pokwang have in common?

Ai Ai de las Alas and Pokwang will hopefully be together in one movie project. At a dinner arranged by Kris Aquino, Ai Ai and Pokwang learned that they have things in common. Pokwang, affectionately called Pokie by both Kris and Ai Ai, was ecstatic when she got the invitation from Kris to bond and have dinner with Ai Ai. “When Kris asked me, ‘Pokwang okey ka ba dinner with Ai Ai,’ natulala ako for 10 seconds. I was surprised and nervous. Ang sabi ko, ano kaya ang mangyayari sa amin dito,” said Pokwang.

In her six years with ABS-CBN, Pokwang has never had a chance to be with Ai Ai in any of the ABS-CBN programs or in any shows outside of ABS-CBN. And to Pokwang the meeting with Ai Ai was a dream come true. Over dinner, they discovered that they were kindred fairies.

Sobra akong maka ina at maka anak,” Pokwang added.

Both Ai Ai and Pokwang put premium on their families first. “Our children are our treasures,” Pokwang said. “They are our priority,” enthused Ai Ai.

Ai Ai and Pokwang will soon be working in a movie under Star Cinema. Ai Ai would love a comedy horror, while Pokwang, prefers a fantasy comedy horror with action. And guess who they want to be their leading man? Robin Padilla.

And if Ai Ai is showbiz Comedy Concert Queen, then who is Pokwang? “Prinsesa ng Masa,” said Ai Ai.

Bravo to Kris Aquino, the Queen of all Media, who made all this possible.
